13th Annual Spookathon October 22, 2011 2 - 7 pm at Tenn Street Coffee 4418
Tennyson St. in Denver's Highlands
The Spookathon is DAMTA's annual community outreach event that takes place on the October Saturday closest to Halloween. It is designed to be a non-competitive, informal, family-friendly performance opportunity in which students of all ages are invited to play "spooky" music (or any style they choose) in costume at a popular coffee house. The purposes of the Spookathon are three-fold:
- Sharing music with the community
- Informing the community of the benefits of high-quality music instruction
- Raising money for DAMTA's Sally Manion Memorial Scholarship Fund and/or the Marcia Mounsey Foundation
Some of our students receiving funds raised through Spookathon over the past ten years currently study at the DenverSchool of the Arts, Metro State College and in a Doctoral program in music at UNC. New students have just begun lessons this fall.
Students raise funds by getting pledges for sponsors of their performance and/or practicing for the month of October. Parents and supporters encourage individual and corporate donations. Students need not be "star" performers to participate. The motto of the Spookathon is MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE!
