Local Association Award
By Dr. Grace Asquith NCTM
Denver Area MTA is the 2007-2008 winner of the Colorado State Music Teachers Association Local Association Award. With 87 members,
DAMTA sponsored several events for their students, including a Spookathon held at a coffee house;
monthly musicales, one of which honors graduating seniors; and a collaborative Achievement Day with South
Suburban MTA.
In a growing tradition, DAMTA hosted the annual Fall
Course which benefits CSMTA members throughout
the Greater Metro region. Special priority was given to
outreach projects: reaching underprivileged students,
raising funds for scholarships for lessons, supporting the
Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Denver Philharmonic
and Metro State Piano Prize. Membership increased,
including several younger teachers as DAMTA created
a mentoring program to partner with the Metro State
Collegiate Chapter.
To strengthen their local association, many DAMTA
members also served on the CSMTA Board, participated
as presenters at MTNA and CSMTA conferences, and
provided grassroots support for the recent MTNA
Conference in Denver.
